VALVE FUNCTION :

A malformed or malfunctioning valve can inhibit smooth blood flow. When blood leaks backwards in the wrong direction, the condition is called valvular regurgitation. A narrow valve or one that is blocked is called stenotic, and the condition is called valvular stenosis. Both conditions can force the heart to work harder, leading to further damage.
